"Designing from the Stone"

Tools for General Use:
This workshop defines the technique of Bezel Setting with Metal Clay and teaches how to "listen to the stone" before designing the setting. Design principles are applied and illustrated to help you learn to think like a designer and respond to what is inherently offered in the stone. The goal is to create a harmony between the stone and the metal setting.
Saturday
Power point presentation
Stone analysis - time to sketch ideas individually
Group huddle and critique of stone analysis and sketches
Templates created from final versions of sketches
Demo of making tabbed bezel wire
Tabbed bezels are made and fired
Backing plates made and bezels embedded to dry over lunch
Lunch
Work on pieces, refine and dry
Fire first round of pieces
Sunday
Fix and fill fired pieces if needed
Burnish fired pieces
Demo bezel setting
File the seams of bezels
Patina - Liver of Sulfur all pieces
Lunch
Custom fitting of bezels before setting
Setting the stones
Hand finishing the setting of the pendant
