"Channel Set Pendant or Earrings"
*with Chris Brooks*
Tools for General Use:
In this workshop we'll learn Chris' technique for "Channel Setting" square and rectangular cut stones, please note, this is not a true channel set. This project will have all four sides enclosed with the front and back mostly open. "Setting Stones in Metal Clay" by Jeanette Landenwitch has a different project and technique.
The pendant shown above is almost 1' long and has 5 stones (3mmx5mm) each. Your piece can be larger, but stone should be no bigger than 6mm x 8mm each
Learning includes:
How to space the stones so they will just touch after firing
How to make clay strips the right width and thickness without any mathematics
How to keep your piece flat or allow it to curve during firing if you wish
Each step will be demonstrated along with a handout.
This one day class, requires a little precision, so this may not be a good choice for a true beginners.
